Koszyki Shopping Hall

Shopping Hall Koszyki, or Baskets, also known as the People’s Bazaar – was erected between 1906 and 1908 at 61/63 Koszykowa St. in Warsaw, on the grounds of a farm called Baskets. The hall was designed in the Art Nouveau style, decorated with wrought iron gates and sculptures by Józef Zygmunt Otto, from which the bull’s head and the mermaid on the attic have survived to this day. During the Warsaw Uprising the hall was burned and mostly destroyed. Taken over after the war by the Warsaw Foods Cooperative of “Społem”, Koszyki developed to include one-storey pavilions around the courtyard. In 1965, the hall was entered into the register of monuments.
In the 1990s, Koszyki once again became a bustling place, full of vibrant signboards, where Varsovians would meet and shop. In 2016, The Koszyki Hall was returned to Warsaw as a unique social and culinary spot, where you can eat in over a dozen restaurants and bars, or buy food products for your home.
